The MD2 Marquette University Golden Eagles hockey team put on quite a show for the home crowd on Friday night, as they defeated the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee Panthers 5-2. The Golden Eagles dominated the game, outshooting the Panthers 49-24, but the Panthers held their own, thanks to a strong performance from goalie Jake Mork, who stopped 48 of the Golden Eagles’ shots.
The Golden Eagles got off to a hot start, scoring two goals in the first period. Chase Breslin and Jake Boudreau both had two assists in the game, helping the Golden Eagles build a 3-0 lead. The Panthers managed to make it a one-goal game in the third period, but the Golden Eagles were able to hold on to their lead and seal the victory.
The Golden Eagles’ powerplay was not as successful as they had hoped, going 0-for-8, but their penalty kill was solid, allowing only one goal on nine chances. Daniel Leger was also solid in net, stopping 22 of the 24 shots he faced.
The win was a big one for the Golden Eagles, and it was a great way to start off the season. With a strong showing from both the offense and defense, the Golden Eagles look primed to have a successful season.
