The MD2 Marquette University Golden Eagles hockey team took a 3-0 victory over the Northern Michigan University Wildcats on Friday night at The Ponds of Brookfield. The Golden Eagles outshot the Wildcats 43-28, but the Wildcats held strong and kept the game close. The Golden Eagles were unable to capitalize on either of their powerplay chances, but the Wildcats were unable to convert on any of their twelve powerplay opportunities.
The Golden Eagles were led by #9 Chase Breslin who scored the only goal of the game. Tucker Stepan was the star of the night for the Golden Eagles, making 28 saves on 28 shots to earn the shutout. Wildcats goalie Kurtis Hiltz also had a strong night, making 43 saves on 43 shots. The Wildcats had to play the final minutes of the game shorthanded after #27 Alex Pavelkis was assessed 14 penalty minutes.
The win was a great team effort by the Golden Eagles and a great way to start off the season. Congratulations to the Golden Eagles on their 3-0 victory!
