The Marquette University Golden Eagles suffered a heavy defeat on Sunday, falling 9-3 to the Marian University Sabres at the Blue Line Family Ice Center. Despite outshooting the Sabres 44-36, the Golden Eagles couldn’t capitalize on their opportunities, converting only one of their six powerplays.
Isaac Nguyen, the Golden Eagles’ goalie, had a tough night, saving only 27 of the 36 shots he faced. On the other side of the rink, Sabres’ Logan Sawatzky was in top form, saving 41 of the 44 shots he faced, helping his team secure a convincing victory.
Nico Venier was the lone bright spot for the Golden Eagles, netting one goal. However, the star of the match was undoubtedly Sabres’ Blake Stafford, who racked up an impressive four assists.
The Golden Eagles will have to quickly shake off this defeat as they prepare to face the Sabres again in their next game on Saturday, October 3, at 9:15 pm CDT at the Blue Line Family Ice Center.
