The Marquette University Golden Eagles put on a masterclass in hockey on Sunday night, besting the Roosevelt University Lakers 7-2 at The Ponds of Brookfield. Despite being outshot 37-34 by the Lakers, the Golden Eagles proved that it’s quality, not quantity, that counts when it comes to shots on goal.
The Golden Eagles’ goalie, Jakob Aron, had a standout performance, saving 35 of the 37 shots he faced. On the other side of the rink, Lakers’ goalie Nicholas Ruiz struggled to keep the Golden Eagles at bay, saving only 27 of the 34 shots sent his way.
Neither team managed to capitalize on their powerplays, with the Lakers going 0/5 and the Golden Eagles 0/7. However, this did little to dampen the Golden Eagles’ spirits or slow their momentum.
Nico Venier of the Golden Eagles was the star of the night, scoring two of the team’s seven goals. Kamil Bednarz managed to get one in for the Lakers, but it was not enough to turn the tide of the game in their favor.
The Golden Eagles will look to carry this momentum into their next game, a home match against the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee on Friday, September 25 at 9:30 pm CDT, once again at The Ponds of Brookfield. The team and their fans will no doubt be hoping for another high-scoring victory.
